What
is Clinical Hypnosis?
Clinical
Hypnosis maybe conceptualized as a special condition
of self-awareness that permits enhanced communication
between conscious and unconscious processes, including
the workings of the autonomic nervous system. Therapeutic
guided imagery stimulated in hypnosis can be utilized
to influence all organ systems in the body in order
to boost their performance and heighten their reserve
potential. Clinical hypnosis uses both the power of
suggestion and meditation like states to access the
deepest levels of the mind to create positive changes
in behavior and to manage a range of health conditions.
Using the power of the mind to assist you to overcome
unwanted habits and behavior cannot be overestimated.
There is overwhelming scientific data clearly demonstrating
the power of the subconscious mind to improve your
health and to assist people to experience a more fulfilling
lifestyle.
Hypnosis
can be categorized into two basic types. Stage hypnosis
and Clinical hypnosis. Stage hypnosis is entertainment,
where the audience volunteers to be part of the show
and acts as they believe a hypnotized person should.
They give the illusion the hypnotized person has no
control over their mind or body. Clinical hypnosis
is the science of working with people for the purpose
of dealing with unwanted emotions and behavior and
to improve a client's health and lifestyle. I deal
with clinical hypnosis only. During hypnosis, a person's
conscious mind is somewhat subdued, not asleep, but
merely less interested in what is happening. This
allows the subconscious mind to become more active.
As a hypnotist talks to a hypnotized person, the subconscious
mind more readily accepts what it is told and governs
the body accordingly. One very important factor of
the subconscious mind is that it is totally objective.
If the subconscious mind chooses to accept a particular
suggestion, it is done uncritically, as fact, without
any clouding or emotion affecting its outcome.
Common
questions about hypnosis
Can
the hypnotist make you do things against your will?
Absolutely not! The hypnotist has no power over you
at all and cannot make you do anything against your
will. Hypnosis is really just self hypnosis. All the
hypnotist does is guide you into a hypnotic state,
which you can easily learn to do for yourself, if
you wish. The hypnotist is not a master, but a guide,
and does not have any special powers over you.
Can
I get stuck in hypnosis and never come out?
Again, not true! If you are hypnotized and the hypnotist
left the room and never returned, your own mind would
pull you safely out of the hypnosis in one of two
ways. You would either realize the hypnotist was no
longer talking to you, and you would open your eyes
and be wide awake and feeling fine or, you would drift
into a normal sleep for a few minutes and then wake
up normally, feeling fine.
Can
everyone be hypnotized?
No, no one can be hypnotized against his or her will
and certain people with certain mental or neurological
conditions cannot be hypnotized for reasons that are
unknown. However most people can be hypnotized if
they want to be.
Is
it easier to hypnotize weak minded people?
No, actually it is easier to hypnotize people who
are educated..
Is
deep hypnosis necessary for results?
Deep hypnosis is not necessary. Any level of hypnosis
from light to deep can bring good results. Forget
the Hollywood description that depicts people walking
around like zombies under the control of the hypnotist,
who merely has to look into a person's eyes to put
them into an alleged hypnotic trance. This is false
and has no basis in fact.
What
is the difference between a Hypnotherapist and Hypnocounselor?
There is no difference. In New Jersey as a result
of beneficial meetings with the Board of Psychological
Examiners and the Department of Consumer Affairs,
it was agreed that the practitioner of hypnosis would
be legally titled Hypnocounselor.
